In April, 2010 I was named “Citizen Journalist of the Year” in Region 9 of the Society of Professional Journalists, which covers New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. This was earned by writing and photography that appeared on my weblog, Star Phoenix Base. Here is the certificate I received:
Attendance at the Ted Scripps Leadership Institute
On June 4-6, 2010 I attended this training program for chapter leaders of the Society of Professional Journalists, joining 18 other leaders of Pro chapters from around the nation. The Institute took place in Indianapolis, IN, the headquarters city of SPJ. I have been a member since a senior at the University of Missouri, and am currently Vice President of the Rio Grande Chapter, covering all of New Mexico and the West Texas region of El Paso.
